Post not related to SL - Politics instead!

Soo...I am a person who takes on a devout interest in politics. Even if it fails to involve my home country. If you watch the news, you may have heard about Conservative pundit Ann Coulter's visit to several Canadian Universities to deliver a speech about *derisive snort* Media Bias and Political Correctness.

If you ask me, she is the last person who should be talking about either of those topics. But....I agree that she has the right to express an opinion. While she had cancelled her speech at the University of Ottawa due to heavy protesting, there are a number of things to take into consideration. Free speech vs. Hate Speech, the debate rages onwards.

Here I found a wonderful summation of the incidents which transpired during her cross-country tour.

"While the middle-aged wring their hands about the anti-Coulter protests, there's a lesson to be learned from the youth. The students at the University of Ottawa who put their boots to the ground in protest clearly and forcefully expressed their view that Coulter's racism, her homophobia, or her penchant for glib sound bites about how torture should be a televised spectator sport had no place on an enlightened, multicultural Canadian college campus in 2010--at least not on theirs, if anywhere in a civilized society."

The entire article is an excellent read, and can be found at

Building Time in SL

So lately, I've found myself uninspired by a great deal of things in SL. Most notably, roleplay. At this point in time, I am much more satisfied whittling away time on a building platform.

I'm also trying to branch out, but so far my mind stays on Ancient Architecture. I came across this photo in Google Image Search...

And decided to do my best to bring it into being. I ended up with this...

It's a model of an Ancient Egyptian home. The rooms are fairly simple, as well as the stone exterior.

The next thing I'm tackling is a model of the Roman City of Baalbek, which can be found in modern-day Lebanon. I've completed near the entire thing, this being only the entrance gate. This stuff isn't for sale, I just do the majority for myself. Although I was recently convinced to list a few things on Xstreetsl.

Photos!

Inspired by the creation of the Divine Miss Y's Blog! She was always my shopping partner in SL...I got groans from everyone else whenever I wanted to go "nose to the grindstone" shopping.
Plus....she INTRODUCED ME TO AOHARU! Some of the most amazing clothing work in SL!
I love pictures where the camera goes "click"...right when you want it to!
New boots by *COCO*...over the knee without being hooker-esque! Beautiful. And yes, I am diving head-first into a mail bin!
Love love these boots!
A really pretty, funky dress...with clunky biker boots of course!
Some shots in NYC Central Park. This girl has been working on this sim for a LONG time, but it's coming along nicely!
The more I wear this outfit, the more I Love it. But, it does remind me a little bit of a bull-fighter...

I wish I would have gotten a better shot of this sweater..beautiful neckline details...faux necklaces. From LeLook! Ditto for most of the fancier tops I've been wearing lately, including the cream one above.
Finally, some *awesome* two tones from *COCO*. Fashion is coming to SL in a big way through these designers!
To top it all off...I took my fail-safe favorite plaid shirt and added some...FUR! (Sorry SL PETA.)

Returning

My main :)
When I'm not wandering around SL looking for things to keep my interest, I'm roleplaying in Upper Kingdoms, an Ancient Egyptian/Nubian sim. I've been out of game for some time now, so I had more than a few things to catch up on.
Having a tavern night tonight, so will enjoy some scandalous gossip as per usual...Thinking about proposing some serious roleplay ideas. Something about a power play...who knows. Currently I roleplay the part of the Head Priest of Amun..which is as high as I can get in the temple. Next comes a bit of a play for Nubia or Egypt I think.
*Evil laugh*
LOL. I'm hoping to be able to organize a tourney for this week as well!

James Cameron's "Avatar" in Second Life

Avatar!
As can be seen by both the banner and the picture posted above, the new hot thing in SL has become roleplay based on James Cameron's movie "Avatar". There are several very promising sims, in the very early stages, obviously. One worth checking out is "Arborea", but a quick search for "Pandora, Na'vi or Hometree" will reveal a good chunk of others in the same vein.
There are already some excellent products created for this new world. A visit to the landing points in almost any of the Avatar sims contain some of the best makers.
The second that I saw the movie for the first time, I knew that there would be sims in SL popping up right away. The premise is one which makes for excellent roleplay. The native peoples embattled against the invading, greedy humans in search of unobtainium. I've seen the movie twice now, and I recommend IMAX 3D! It was awesome...I wouldn't object to going a third time.
Cheers!

From my brain to your screen.

This is about as simple a forum for me as can be. I have a real life, and I have a second life.

Second life went from an experiment, to a need, to a chore. As of right now, it has returned to being somewhat enjoyable, but it gets less and less of my time.

Over the holidays, I abandoned my computer, and went without SL for over a month. It was easier than I thought it would be. When I ventured back in this week, I made the decision to keep it on the back burner. That means when I come in, doing things that I enjoy.
